In the last quarter, Ethereum generated less revenue than Robinhood Chain, which launched three months earlier

In the third quarter of 2026, Robinhood Chain reportedly generated around $51 million in network revenue, compared with nearly $41 million for Ethereum, even though Robinhood’s blockchain had only just begun its public operations. Data published by ARK Invest highlight a shift in activity toward new networks, without calling into question Ethereum’s still-dominant position in several segments.

The contrast is notable: Robinhood Chain surpassed Ethereum in network revenue during its first quarter of operation, despite operating for a much shorter period than the established blockchain. According to ARK Invest’s quarterly report on decentralized finance, revenue attributed to the new chain totaled around $51 million. Ethereum recorded nearly $41 million.

Robinhood opened its blockchain’s public mainnet on July 1, 2026, after launching a testnet in February. Its first quarter of operation therefore corresponds to a particularly active launch phase. The figures published cover the third quarter and highlight how quickly the network attracted trading activity and users.

The comparison does not mean, however, that the two networks have the same track record, level of maturity, or use cases. It mainly shows that revenue and trading volumes can quickly concentrate on a new platform when it attracts significant activity. Robinhood’s crypto trading growth is part of a broader context, also described in this article about the recovery in its digital asset trading: cryptocurrency trading is picking up at Robinhood.

Network revenue rises over the quarter, but remains down year over year

Ethereum’s decline is part of a broader trend. According to ARK Invest data, combined revenue across the networks studied rose by about 24% compared with the second quarter, reaching nearly $349 million. This was the first quarterly increase after five consecutive quarters of decline.

This recovery should nevertheless be put into perspective: the total remained about 47% below the level recorded a year earlier. ARK partly attributed the quarterly improvement to a resurgence in activity on Solana and the arrival of Robinhood Chain. Aggregate growth was therefore not distributed evenly across the networks.

Ethereum, for its part, saw its network revenue fall by about 35% compared with the previous quarter. This contraction comes as new players gain visibility and users can spread their trades across multiple platforms. A network’s revenue depends in particular on the activity taking place on it and the fees associated with transactions; on its own, it does not reflect the entirety of its economic value or influence.

Robinhood Chain attracts decentralized exchange volumes

During its launch quarter, Robinhood Chain processed around $65 billion in volume on decentralized exchanges, according to data cited by ARK. This placed it fourth among the networks studied for this type of activity. That is a substantial result for a blockchain whose public mainnet had opened only a few weeks before the quarter began.

A significant share of the trading involved tokenized stocks. These accounted for around $13.7 billion in volume on the network. Only BNB Chain recorded a higher figure in this category, at nearly $16.5 billion. These figures highlight the importance of on-chain representations of financial assets in Robinhood Chain’s growth.

Initial success in terms of volume does not necessarily guarantee that the network will maintain this position. New platforms can benefit from strong launch interest, while usage and revenue subsequently evolve according to user loyalty, available offerings, and transaction costs. Security and reliance on third-party contracts also remain central concerns for decentralized applications, as illustrated by the case of Squid following the hack of an external contract: an incident that led to significant losses.

Ethereum remains at the heart of the new chain’s operation

Robinhood Chain settles its transactions on Ethereum and uses ETH as its gas token, meaning the asset used to pay execution fees. The relationship between the two networks is therefore less one of complete separation than that of a new platform built around the Ethereum ecosystem.

This architecture means Ethereum can continue to collect some of the fees associated with Robinhood Chain’s activity. The amount of revenue directly attributed to each network nevertheless depends on the calculation method used and where the fees are generated or recorded. Robinhood Chain’s growth therefore does not mean that activity on the new chain is entirely outside Ethereum’s reach.

The development of Ethereum-compatible networks is part of a broader trend aimed at offering specialized environments while maintaining interoperability with existing tools and applications. For example, Megalabs raised funds to develop a real-time blockchain compatible with Ethereum, as described in this article about its compatible network project.

Ethereum’s decline is also evident in trading and tokenization

Revenue was not the only indicator to fall for Ethereum in the third quarter. Its decentralized exchange volume declined by about 27%. Base also recorded a decrease, estimated at nearly 17%. ARK notes that volumes shifted to newer platforms, including Robinhood Chain.

Ethereum also lost some of its share of the value of real-world assets tokenized on public blockchains. Its share fell from around 50% at the end of June to nearly 44% in the following quarter. Despite this decline, the network retained the top spot, with approximately $16.7 billion in tokenized real-world assets.

This shift reflects increased competition to host financial assets represented as tokens. The distribution can vary depending on the networks, custody infrastructure, and applications chosen by issuers. It also fuels debates about Ethereum’s governance and direction, particularly following criticism of its decision-making structure by Cardano’s creator: questions about Ethereum’s governance.

Investors will be watching Robinhood’s results closely

For Robinhood shareholders, the network figures will need to be considered alongside the company’s financial results. The company is due to report its third-quarter results on October 27, 2026. This announcement will cover Robinhood Chain’s first full quarter of public operation and may provide details on how the network’s activity is reflected in the company’s accounts.

In its second-quarter filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission, Robinhood linked the blockchain’s potential profitability to its level of usage. Trading volumes and network revenue are therefore important indicators, but they are not enough to establish overall profitability. The costs of developing, operating, and securing the network must also be taken into account.

These results will also need to be assessed by distinguishing blockchain activity from Robinhood’s other revenue sources. In the digital asset sector, an increase in volume does not automatically translate into an equivalent increase in profits. Market fluctuations, fees, infrastructure costs, and user expectations also affect performance. Technical incidents can also affect confidence and the costs borne by industry players, as shown by the case of an investor who lost $100,000 following an unexpected malfunction: a technical issue with significant financial consequences.
