Worrying revelations about an active pedocriminal network on TikTok in Lebanon

Since May 1st, Lebanon has been shaken by revelations about a vast pedocriminal network operating notably on TikTok. This case has sparked genuine horror across the country, becoming the main subject of public debate. According to information relayed by several Lebanese media, this network lured minors on TikTok with the aim of sexually assaulting them, while blackmailing their family members.
This network, composed of about thirty members, some of whom are very popular on the Chinese application, is said to have traumatized at least thirty minor victims. Among those arrested or prosecuted are a hairdresser, a well-known clothing retailer on TikTok, a dentist, a photographer, a man responsible for transferring funds between gang members, a taxi driver, as well as three minors. The investigation also reveals suspicions against a lawyer and other individuals, including the heads of the network, who are reportedly abroad.

The sordid modus operandi of this pedocriminal network

The modus operandi used by this pedocriminal network is particularly sordid. According to sources, ten gang members were tasked with selecting children on social networks, using traps such as offers to be models for advertising campaigns or through adolescents already active on the networks. The other ten members then chose the locations where the victims would be taken, making them believe they were attending parties organized in chalets in Beirut and Mount Lebanon.
The last ten members of the network were responsible for the sexual assaults on the minors, including the leader of the gang. The victims were drugged before being sexually assaulted. The assaults were then filmed, and the videos were used either as child pornography or as a means of coercion to dissuade the victims from notifying the police.

Call for a ban on TikTok and reflection on the situation in Lebanon

In light of the scale of this case, many internet users have called on the authorities to ban TikTok in Lebanon. However, the Ministry of Telecommunications explained that it could not act without a judicial decision in this regard.
For the Lebanese press, this case partially reveals the endless crisis that the country has been undergoing for several years, both financially and institutionally. Indeed, in recent years, Lebanon has seen an increase in violence against children, linked to the worsening economic crisis. This pedocriminal network case on TikTok sheds light on a new facet of the difficulties the country is facing.
The question now is what the official and judicial response to this sensitive matter will be. The Lebanese hope that this case will be treated with the utmost rigor and that those responsible will be brought to justice. In the meantime, it is imperative to raise public awareness about this issue and to implement preventive measures to combat these heinous crimes targeting children.
