Since June 3, the social network X (formerly Twitter) has updated its content policies, officially allowing the publication of erotic and pornographic content on its platform. This decision marks a significant turning point in the history of the social network. On the page dedicated to “adult content” in its regulations, X explains that users can now create, share, and view sexually produced and distributed content consensually.
Protection measures for children and unwilling users
Aware of the sensitivity of the topic, X assures that measures will be taken to prevent these contents from being visible to children or adults who do not wish to be exposed to them. The platform is also committed to firmly prohibiting content promoting sexual exploitation, harming minors, and obscene behavior.
History of X’s content policies
Until this update, X had never formally banned erotic or pornographic videos or photos since its inception. In 2019, it had partially addressed the issue by announcing a ban on images depicting violent sexual conduct, effective January 1, 2020. However, the publication of pornographic content had never been officially authorized or prohibited.
Contents now explicitly authorized
According to the new policy, photos or videos featuring nudity of adults or pornographic sexual acts are now explicitly allowed. This regulation also applies to content generated by artificial intelligence, animation, and hentai, a Japanese genre of hypersexualized manga and cartoons.
